Castello Mint

Found growing wild at Castello Di Amarosa in Napa, California, this mint had me speechless the first time I smelled it. It was obviously a mint variety, but with exceptionally small leaves. After grabbing one and smelling it, I was immediately bombarded with smells of strawberry and sweet semi minty undertones. I had to have this in my own garden, so I took a cutting and kept it alive in a water bottle until I got back to Sacramento. Now, a few years later, this plant has become a staple for making drinks and foods that call for a refreshing strawberry flavor. It lends itself extremely well to making strawberry mojitos on a hot summer day.
