Peppers

Better Buena

A reworked version of the already legendary Buena Mulata pepper. Has a more violet hue, but is much more resilient to both hot and dry climates and hot and humid climates. Taste is similar to a cayenne, but with more fruitiness, and it is more productive than both a cayenne and the traditional Buena Mulata. Has a higher anthocyanin content as well, and takes the same amount of time if not less than the traditional BM to mature, with a higher amount of peppers per plant at any given time. Better in almost every way, and really exemplifies the goal of Motherboard genetics, to improve in every aspect of the genetics.

Peruvian Citrus

A reworked version of the Aji Amarillo variety, the Peruvian Citrus brings forward most of the best traits of its South American heritage. It is heavily resistant to hot, dry climates, and can do well in hot and humid climates as well. Colder climates tend to cause this variety to produce less, but with manual flowering and a close eye on the weather, this variety can still thrive and produce an abundance of peppers. The flavor is unmatched, highlighting the extremely citrusy flavor of the original Aji Amarillo strain, while adding a slightly umami flavor profile that is not found in many pepper varieties.

Why Ask Why

A crossing of Why Not (Jay’s Peach Ghost Scorpion and 7 Pot White Pepper) and a White Brain pepper, I attempted to stabilize the genetics of the Why Not pepper. It was known for either turning white or peach and exhibiting many different variations of the two parents. But I wanted it to be stable in its shape and color, so by crossing it to a stable White Brain I was able to all but eliminate the peach colored variations and the shape has stabilized to a traditional brain strain pepper.

Chocolate Starscream x  (Bhutlah Bubblegum 7 Pot Chocolate x Thai Bird's Eye)

This deceiving little pepper holds a special place in my heart because I tested it on some friends while giving them invitations to my wedding. I'm surprised they showed up! In all seriousness, this pepper looks like a Thai Bird's Eye with a little bit darker color, but wow does it pack a ton more heat than its look implies. Between the Starrscream Chocolate and Bhutlah Bubblegum genetics, there is plenty of superhot genetics to lend heat to the pepper. It has a mildly chipotle like flavor that is perfect for spicing up traditional dishes that would lend themself to a Thai Bird's Eye, although with about a third of the peppers. These plants are highly prolific, so you should expect to get hundreds over the course of a season off of a medium sized plant.

Cerebro do Diabo (Devil's Brain)

Cérebro do Diabo, a cross between a Bad Brain x Devil's Tongue Pepper, is a variety that is bursting with flavor and a medium level of heat. For the pepper lovers with spice experience, this variety will be perfect for adding both a spicy kick and magnificent flavor to dishes in of itself. For those who are more novice level in terms of heat, this pepper will still be amazing for cooking as it imparts a wonderful floral/chipotle flavor to a dish while its heat is easily tamed by diluting the pepper into a large portion of food.

Chocolate Bhut Jolokia (Chocolate Ghost) x Better Buena x Pimenta de Neyde

Super Bhut x Pink Tiger x Peach Bhut x Dragon's Breath

A yet unnamed four way cross, this variety is not to be trifled with. The (Super Bhut x Pink Tiger x Peach Bhut) by White Hot Peppers is a great variety by itself, but I wanted to try to create something with its great flavor, without sacrificing at all in the heat department. So, I crossed it to my Dragon's Breath pepper that had been growing alongside it and only this season was I able to try it for the first time. The Dragon's Breath has an interesting history, essentially it was created to extract capsaicin out of, not for great flavor or looks. What I created is a pepper that has a good fruity flavor.....for about 5 seconds before your mouth is on FIRE. These would be great to put into a big batch of salsa or guac, something that will blend itself to the flavor while still being able to dilute the heat across a large amount of food. Without doing this, the food may become inedible.

KS Scarlet Rose x Trinidad Scorpion

Building upon the amazing work of Khang Starr once again, the Scarlet Rose x Scorpion cross is another beautiful specimen to grow. The Scarlet Rose has an amazing flavor, is very prolific, and has an amazing shelf life when grown and stored well. The only thing it was lacking in my opinion was adequate heat. Enter the Trinidad Scorpion. Known for its unwavering heat and not much else, the Scorpion lent its expertise to the Scarlet Rose the only way it knew how. After combing through and pheno hunting hundreds of seeds, I selected the one that seemed to be the most well rounded of the two parents. The one that leveraged the heat from the Scorpion without losing flavor, productivity, shelf stability, etc. What came out is now a staple in my yearly gardens for its versatility and ease of growing.

Gotham Pepper

This pepper was an absolute treat to breed and grow. I started from the name, without considering much of the cross itself. I had a Batman Tangerine pepper I had gotten from Etsy and a Bane Strain Peach that I got from a different seed site. Being of exceptional intelligence and wit, I figured that Gotham would be a fitting name for this cross (clever I know, Batman fans FTW).
